Dean Darryll Pines has announced the winners of the 2011 Dean's Doctoral Research Award Competition:

First Place ($1,500):

Konstantinos Gerasopoulos, Materials Science and Engineering/ISR
Advisor: Professor Reza Ghodssi
“Integration and Characterization of Tobacco mosaic virus-based Nanostructured Materials in Three-Dimensional Microbattery Architectures”

Second Place ($1,000):

Zhao Zhang, Mechanical Engineering
Advisor: Professor Teng Li
"Morphologic Instability of Graphene and its Potential Applications"

Third Place ($500):

Brandon Bush, Aerospace Engineering
Advisor: James Baeder
“Computational Study of the Force Production Mechanisms of Flapping-Wing Flight”

Dean Pines created the Dean's Doctoral Research Award Competition to give top Clark School doctoral student researchers special recognition that will be valuable in launching their careers, and to show all students the importance of high quality engineering research. Students submitted their work through competitions at the department level. Members of the Clark School Board of Visitors served as judges for this competition.
