Mark Lewis, aerospace engineering professor and chief scientist of the U.S. Air Force, has won the Aviation Week Laureate Award in the Aeronautics/Propulsion Category.
The Laureates represent an elite class of distinguished men and women who epitomize the values and vision of the global aerospace industry. For the first time, Laureates were announced "live" at the National Air & Space Museum, where the magazine's editors honored those who epitomize the values and visions of the global aerospace industry.
The Aviation Week and Space Technology Laureate Award was conceived in 1957 to honor individuals or team leadership in global aviation and aerospace. In 1989, Aviation Week created the Laureate Award to honor extraordinary achievements in aviation and aerospace. The Laureate Award annually recognizes achievement in six categories: Aeronautics/Propulsion, Commercial Air Transport, Electronics, Government/Military, Operations, and Space.
