A pledge of $180,000 from the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA)-Bethesda Chapter is providing $60,000 annually in scholarships to University of Maryland students over the next three years. Twenty-nine students, including 25 students from the Clark School have been selected as the first AFCEA-Bethesda Scholars for the upcoming 2008-2009 academic year.

The AFCEA-Bethesda Scholars Program was created to benefit full-time engineering and computer science students who graduated from Montgomery County (Md.) high schools.

The AFCEA-Bethesda Chapter wanted to help students with financial challenges obtain a quality education in engineering and computer science, and also add to the skilled workforce that is in demand by many of its members. By investing in UMD students, AFCEA-Bethesda Chapter is supporting this need and helping to drive the economic engine of the state of Maryland.
