Maryland Day 2009 on April 25th, broke all attendance records as a beautiful, sunny day brought visitors to College Park from all over the Washington, D.C. region and beyond. Writing to the 8700 faculty, staff and student volunteers for the event, University President C.D. Mote, Jr. said, "With a welcome in eight languages and a parade of 206 national flags, the 11th annual Maryland Day on Saturday was another tremendous success, attracting 77,500 visitors and 2.4 million hits on the web site!

Participants enjoyed 415 academic, athletic, arts and family-friendly events, including music and dance, robotics demonstrations, arboretum tours, and hula-hooping on the mall, to name a few. All of the 'neighborhoods' and attractions drew streams of visitors who had the opportunity to experience our vibrant and diverse intellectual community."

In particular to the Clark School of Engineering:

- The lines to get into the department's popular Glenn L. Martin Wind Tunnel were a block long even at 3:45 pm. Everyone who wanted to get in, got in (to be blown around at 40 MPH!).

- The Space Systems Lab and NASA-Goddard exhibit by the Manufacturing Building was busy throughout the day.

- The Engineering, Math and Physics areas were totally packed with lots of kids learning about robots, energy and everything else you could think of.
